WASHINGTON – Today the House unveiled the HEROES 2.0 Act. Here is a statement from EWG Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Scott Faber:
Millions of families are struggling with hunger, and millions of workers are risking their lives to keep us fed. Speaker Pelosi is right to boost funding to feed hungry Americans through the SNAP program, to provide sick pay and personal protective equipment for food and farm workers, and to direct the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue emergency standards to protect food and farm workers.
More than 20 million people grow, harvest, pack, process, transport, sell and serve our food. But many of the people who feed us are unusually susceptible to the coronavirus sweeping the nation. Farm and food workers are working long hours, at enormous personal risk, to feed us. Congress, the Department of Agriculture and OSHA must make every effort to protect these essential workers and recognize the critical contribution they make to our nation.
We applaud House leaders for making hungry families and the people who feed us a priority.
