WASHINGTON – President Trump will announce whether he is pulling out of the historic Paris climate change accord after returning from the G7 Summit at the end of this month. If he does, the U.S. will join the ranks of Syria and Nicaragua – the only nations in the world that are not committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions – said EWG President Ken Cook.
“Walking backward doesn’t take the planet or the country with you, Mr. President,” said Cook. “It won't stop the glaciers from melting, catastrophic storms from happening more often, or the Atlantic Ocean from rising up and swallowing Mar-a-Lago.”
Instead, Cook said, the U.S. must be a leader, not a laggard, in combating global warming.
"The only way to curb the rise of carbon dioxide pollution is aggressive leadership from the United States," Cook said. "Do we really want to join Syria and Nicaragua as the only nations on Earth not committed to this worldwide fight to stave off famine, drought and environmental devastation?"
