Top Ten Reasons the Farm Bill Failed

Thursday, June 20, 2013

No one should be surprised that the full House of Representatives thoroughly rejected the bloated and divisive farm bill (H.R. 1947) produced by the Agriculture Committee.

Here's why:

  1. Cut SNAP by $20 Billion
  2. Put New Restrictions on SNAP
  3. Increased Crop Insurance Subsidies
  4. Raised Price Guarantees
  5. Extended Direct Payments for Cotton Farmers
  6. Rejected Crop Insurance Reforms
  7. Failed to Include Conservation
  8. Blocked State Safety Standards
  9. Cut Conservation Programs
  10. Weakened Environmental Protections
