Glacier's Press Release

STATEMENT BY BRIAN MCINERNEY, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF GLACIER WATER SERVICES, INC.

To put it as simply as I can, the report and lawsuit announced this morning by the Environmental Working Group and the Environmental Law Foundation are part of an absolutely fabricated controversy manufactured by people who are at best seriously misinformed or at worst deliberately trying to mislead the public.

For the past 20 years, Glacier Water has been committed to providing safe and high quality drinking water. Our water vending machines start with federally regulated municipal water that then passes through a comprehensive seven-step filtration process. On top of that, our technicians take more than 40,000 water samples from our machines each year that are then tested by independent EPA certified laboratories to ensure their quality and safety. And as the EWG report notes, 100% of the Glacier machines sampled met federal EPA standards for safe drinking water.

The EWG makes a big deal of the fact that only two-thirds of our machines meet the California state standards for a byproduct of chlorination called trihalomethanes. But as the state health department itself has pointed out, these so-called state standards have nothing to do with what is safe for people. As state health officials will tell you, when it comes to safety, it's the federal standards that matter, and Glacier machines meet or exceed these standards 100% of the time.

The fact is that the EWG's claims have been flatly contradicted by the State of California Department of Health and the LA County Health Department, both of whom have stated that there is no public risk associated with vended water.

Many of the same people who are trying to scare consumers about Glacier Water today were involved in a similar effort four years ago. That effort was knocked down by the California Department of Health Services, which saw through their dishonest rhetoric and stated flatly that the public had no reason to worry about the safety and quality of the drinking water we provide.

Put simply, Glacier Water provides safe, great tasting, high quality drinking water. That's always been our commitment and it always will be.
