About the Map

This map shows county-level indemnities from the federal Crop Insurance Program, as well as farm subsidy payments from the Agriculture Risk Coverage, Price Loss Coverage, Market Facilitation, and Coronavirus Food Assistance programs, from program years 2018 through 2020. The color of each county corresponds to a dollar amount of total indemnities and farm subsidies during the three-year period, with the darker green counties representing those that received larger amounts of total payments.

The various programs often pay farmers for the same decreases in crop prices, so farmers get paid from multiple programs each year for similar reasons. Many of the counties on this map received payments from several programs every year.
