Status: Unregulated - EPA has not established a maximum legal limit in tapwater for this contaminant. 1,1-Dichloropropanone is an unregulated by-product of tap water disinfection. No information on potential health impacts for 1,1-Dichloropropanone was
identified in standard government and academic sources. Sources of 1,1-Dichloropropanone: | Water Treatment and Distribution Byproducts (pipes and fixtures, treatment chemicals and byproducts) |
An Environmental Working Group analysis of 1,1-Dichloropropanone tests reported by 211 public water suppliers in 3 states shows that between 1998 and 2002, 333 thousand people in 9 communities drank water contaminated with 1,1-Dichloropropanone. No health-based limit has been established by the federal government.1,1-Dichloropropanone remains unregulated in tap water, without a maximum legal limit. 1,1-Dichloropropanone Violations Because 1,1-Dichloropropanone is unregulated in tap water, no violations are
recorded in EPA's violations database, the Safe Drinking Water Information
System. Under the federal tap water law, water suppliers are not required
to routinely test for 1,1-Dichloropropanone, and any level is legal in tap water.
