Status: Unregulated - EPA has not established a maximum legal limit in tapwater for this contaminant. 2,2-Dichloropropane is an intermediate used in chemical manufacturing. No information on potential health impacts for 2,2-Dichloropropane was
identified in standard government and academic sources. Sources of 2,2-Dichloropropane: | Industry |
An Environmental Working Group analysis of 2,2-Dichloropropane tests reported by 25,420 public water suppliers in 37 states shows that between 1998 and 2003, 254 thousand people in 12 communities drank water contaminated with 2,2-Dichloropropane. No health-based limit has been established by the federal government.2,2-Dichloropropane remains unregulated in tap water, without a maximum legal limit. Next --> Testing Summary for 2,2-Dichloropropane Water suppliers report an average of 0.6 2,2-Dichloropropane tests per year. 14,331 water suppliers failed to report
any 2,2-Dichloropropane tests at all. | Are tests routinely required for 2,2-Dichloropropane by federal law? | No | | Water suppliers reporting tests for 2,2-Dichloropropane (1998-2003): | 25,420 of 39,751 | | Average testing rate for water supplier reporting tests (1998-2003): | 0.6 per year |

2,2-Dichloropropane Violations Because 2,2-Dichloropropane is unregulated in tap water, no violations are
recorded in EPA's violations database, the Safe Drinking Water Information
System. Under the federal tap water law, water suppliers are not required
to routinely test for 2,2-Dichloropropane, and any level is legal in tap water.
