Study found 5 times more fire retardant exposure in children than mothers

EWG’s Johanna Congleton partnered with researcher Heather Stapleton of Duke University to explore the chemical body burden of three flame retardants. Our peer-reviewed analysis appeared in the Environmental Journal of Science and Technology. In September, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law requiring labels and disclosures on furniture containing toxic fire retardants. Brown cited EWG’s 2007 study that showed that toddlers had higher fire retardant body burdens than their mothers.
