Our analysis, “Monster Wells,” showed that a single fracking operation could use as many as 25 million gallons of water. The report highlighted 261 wells that used more than 3.3 billion gallons of water between April 2010 and December 2013. Energy companies drilled two-thirds of these wells in drought-stricken areas.
