Conservation Reserve losses disclosed

An EWG analysis of the federal Conservation Reserve Program disclosed that between 2006 and 2012, 14 million acres that had been protected at a cost to taxpayers of $6.6 billion likely went under the plow again as conservation agreements between landowners and the U.S. Department of Agriculture expired.
