A Toxic Herbicide Boom in the Last Two Decades

Glyphosate, an ingredient in many herbicides that has recently been found to be “probably” carcinogenic, has seen a 16-fold uptick in use over the past 20 years.

EWG’s Mary Ellen Kustin: 

“American growers sprayed 280 million pounds of glyphosate on their crops in 2012, according to U.S. Geological Survey data. That amounts to nearly a pound of glyphosate for every person in the country.  “
