Will the New Administration Bring ‘Freedom Fries’ Back to Our Schools?

Monday, November 28, 2016

One of the leading candidates for Secretary of Agriculture says bringing deep-fat fryers back to our schools isn’t about french fries.

It’s about freedom.

That’s according to Sid Miller, currently the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture.

Also known as the “cupcake king” for “granting amnesty” to sugary sweets, Miller rolled back a decade-long ban on deep-fat fryers in Texas schools.

Now he may decide what all of America’s kids get served at school – or whether there are any rules at all.

If it were up to Miller, local schools would get to decide whether to feed our kids french fries and cupcakes.

Thanks to bipartisan efforts, school food has never been healthier – regardless of where you send your kids to school.

That’s not all. There are also healthier choices in the marketplace and consumers have more access to healthy foods.

What’s more, bipartisan reforms have made our food safer and our food labels clearer.

But much of that progress could be in jeopardy if Sid Miller is chosen to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Of course Americans should be free to choose what to feed our families. But, when we send our kids to school, we should be sure they’re not offered junk food.
