Grow Organics Proposal

Environmental Working Group's Grow Organics Proposal calls on Congress to increase funding for organic agriculture by $1 billion over 5 years, divided as follows:
  • $375 million to assist farmers transitioning to, and becoming certified as, organic
  • $150 million for research on organic production and pest management
  • $600 million to go to farmers markets and community supported agriculture, ensuring that local, organically grown food reaches consumers
  • $25 million in funding to ensure that that National Organic Program keeps pace with the rapid growth of the organic industry
  • Ensuring that organic farmers are eligible for the benefits of conservation programs that help them make and maintain the change to organic farming
