When she was six months old, Sydney Carlaw's daughter Jessica developed eczema.
Carlaw took her to a pediatrician and was told not to worry. Eczema was common and her daughter would probably outgrow it. The doctor suggested treating the rash with a hydrocortisone cream or plain old Vaseline. Skeptical about the cream, Carlaw decided to do some research on the internet and was alarmed to learn that these creams contain an ingredient that thins skin. Prolonged use on babies and children should be avoided.
