Teflon Chemical to be Reviewed

Published April 17, 2003

The chemical used in Teflon to prevent food from sticking to pots and pans and in hundreds of other products is under scrutiny by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA is launching an "intensified and accelerated" review of Perfluorooctanoic acid, or the chemical C8.

PFCs virtually never break down in the environment and have been found to contaminate most of the U.S. population, including 92 percent of children tested to date, according to the Environmental Working Group.
