Editor -- Bill Walker's Open Forum commentary ("How big ag double- dips into taxpayers' pockets," Aug. 19), raises another issue: How is it that the farmer's who are living off the government are the same ones who support Republicans who want to do away with social programs that help the poor and disadvantaged in many ways? These are the same people who talk about how hard they work all their lives building something for their children, when in fact they are building on the backs of the taxpayer.
