Industrial Pollution Doesn’t Have to Start in the Womb

Published February 28, 2009

Our friend Lisa Frack, an on-line parent organizer with the Environmental Working Group, lays out the many options we all have to spread awareness and support for the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act. As a reader of this blog, you probably know that in today’s world, industrial pollution starts in the womb. But it doesn’t have to. The Kid-Safe Chemicals Act is likely to be re-introduced in Congress this Spring. It would overhaul our current ineffective national chemical policy, the Toxic Substances Control Act, which hasn’t been updated since it was enacted in 1976. If you missed the February 19th Green Grapevine conference call on Kid-Safe, you can catch the podcast here. And while there are a bundle of non-profit environmental organizations working hard to pass this legislation - including Healthy Child Healthy World and the Environmental Working Group (EWG) - citizen voices will make all the difference. Really. You’re that powerful. So jump in! Let's partner up and pass the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act. Just like that. How? So glad you asked! You can: • Sign The Declaration against pre-polluted babies and for a stronger law. • Host a house party. We'll provide all the materials you need. Check it out in the Take Action section of our Kid-Safe web page • Spread the word! Blog about it. Tweet about it. Tell your Facebook friends about it. It may seem small, but if we all do our own little part, it's suddenly not so small. Many voices acting in concert can accomplish a great deal. • Sign onto our letter of support if you're affiliated with an organization. Lots already have, but the more the merrier. • Get in touch to talk about how we can partner where you live. Email Lisa at the Environmental Working Group at lisa@ewg.org. Feeling inspired? Thinking that the solution is in your hands? That's because it is. Join us to pass Kid-Safe, and together we will improve the environmental health of all Americans. Because if not now, then when? And if not you, then who? Click here to read this post.
