Farmers, grocers face lawsuit over PCBs in farmed fish

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two environmental groups intend to sue 50 salmon farms, grocery chains and fish processing companies worldwide for failing to alert California consumers to the dangers of PCBs in farmed salmon.

"The salmon farming industry can and must product a heart-healthy food without the PCB risks that farmed salmon currently pose," said Jane Houlihan, president of the Environmental Working Group. EWG and the Center for Environmental Health filed the legal notice of intent to sue last week. After 60 days, the groups can formally file the lawsuit.
