Asbestos: Amendment deluge could start today in trust fund debate

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) is expected to offer a manager's package today that could include upwards of 40 amendments to his asbestos trust fund bill. Specter said yesterday he was still "open for business" when it comes to negotiating on the manager's amendment. "It is still a work in process, so much of this bill is a work in progress," Specter said. Debate of the bill will likely continue until the President's Day recess, with Specter's first and largest amendment package coming to the floor as early as today, according to committee staff.
