Plain Dealer: Group raps oil and gas drillers, claims drinking water supplies threatened

An environmental advocacy group said this afternoon that companies drilling for oil and natural gas around the United States, including in Ohio, far too often skirt federal law and are injecting toxic petroleum distillates into thousands of wells, threatening drinking water supplies.
The Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Working Group said in its report "Drilling Around the Law," that federal and state investigators also "largely look the other way" as drilling contractors use distillates such as kerosene, mineral spirits and other petroleum products which may contain high levels of benzene.
